Welcome to Windsor RFC U9s. My name is Allan Parry, Head Coach for the U9s at Windsor RFC. The first years in any players rugby career are undoubtedly amongst the most important of all. By simply enjoying the game on the pitch, and experiencing the camaraderie off it, we hope players will begin to develop the interest, motivation and self-confidence that will be the basis of what we hope will be a long and enjoyable association with the game. We are always on the look out for new players, and regardless of ability or experience there is a game to be had by all. WRFC encourages competition, whilst fostering a sense of fair play. All registered players are evaluated after each session, based on attendance, ability and attitude. This forms the basis of the squad and team selection policy for competitive fixtures, as well as movement between the squads we maintain. See the good player’s code. All our coaches are appropriately qualified with the RFU, and are fully CRB checked to ensure a consistently high quality of coaching that always places safety and enjoyment to the fore. Most of our coaches began by preferring to get involved, rather than simply watch from the sidelines, and we welcome and encourage parental involvement at all levels, be it as coaches, first-aiders, referees, or just vocal support! See the good parent’s code. In the interests of safety and appropriate behaviour, we would remind parents that they (or another nominated adult) are required to remain on hand during the training sessions/matches. See also the good match official’s code and the good spectator’s code. At U9 level, we enjoy a fast 9-a-side version of the game. This includes contact and tackling, but is controlled, with limited scrums and line-outs unopposed. This allows players to learn and practice the techniques safely, preparing them gradually for the increased physicality of opposed set-pieces at U10. Players must be dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, should bring a drink, and have appropriate footwear. Moulded or screw-in rugby studs must have the British Standards Kitemark. ‘Blades’ are not to be worn. All are encouraged to wear appropriate gum shields. Such equipment is readily available in the club shop, which is open on Sunday mornings. I look forward to welcoming you to Windsor U9s soon. If you have any queries, comments or suggestions please do not hesitate to speak to any of the coaches, or contact me directly by e-mail. | | | | |
